Pyrrho is an SQL based Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) developed by the University of the West of Scotland.[2][3]:1,20
It is a small footprint database and is utilised by the DBTechNet learning initiative supported by the European Commission.[4]:30
Versions
As well as open source and embedded editions, Pyrrho is also available in a professional edition. All three editions share a virtually identical code base.[5]
Technical features
The Pyrrho database engine has a small footprint of about 1 megabyte, making it a plausible option for embedded systems. The database can be accessed via .NET and libraries are provided for some other programming languages.[5] Stored procedures and functions are accepted.
Transactions
Pyrrho uses Optimistic Concurrency Control (OCC) and is ACID compliant.[6][4]:30
Client Programs
Pyrrho is distributed with a client command line interpreter PyrrhoCmd and a Windows client PyrrhoSQL.
Etymology
The RDBMS was named after the Greek philosopher Pyrrho who founded the school of scepticism[5]
