QYK Brands is an American manufacturing company specializing in personal protective equipment (PPE) and other products. Located in Southern California, they manufacture PPE-related products such as masks and hand sanitizers.[1][2]
Background[edit]
Rakesh Tammabuttala is the CEO and founder of QYK Brands. The company started out of Garden Grove, California. The business moved to larger space of about 120,000-square-foot in Anaheim in 2020 and shifted its priorities to masks and hand sanitizer.[3]
Its products are under the brand names QYKSONIC, Dr J's Natural, 1MED, and Glowy.[4][5]
In January 2021, Tammabuttala, CEO of QYK voiced concern in a Wall Street Journal article that Biden's buying American policy could raise prices of their goods.[6]
COVID-19 pandemic[edit]
During the COVID-19 pandemic, QYK Brands was one of the few US companies that quickly shifted efforts to build PPE products such as masks and hand sanitizers. They soon found out that some of the required manufacturing machines were only available in China. They ordered and chartered a huge 36-foot machine from China needed to make masks.[7] [8]
The company had a shortage of supplies and alcohol used for hand sanitizers due to COVID-19 and could not keep up with demand.[9][10][11] The company has seen a large expansion in workforce due to COVID-19.[12][13][14]
In 2020, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a lawsuit against them and other PPE companies who falsely promised fast deliveries.[15][16] The company does not agree to any wrong doings and is fighting these charges.
Their surface disinfectant wipes has been approved by United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and been placed on the effective COVID-19 disinfectants list.[17][18][19]
In March 2021, QYK Brands partnered with Global Empowerment Mission, BStrong by Bethenny & International Medical Corp. to provide sanitizer & wipes in statewide vaccinations clinics.[20]
