Qianjiang Region
The Qianjiang Region was a region (prefecture-level administrative region) in Sichuan Province that has been abolished. It was located in the eastern part of Sichuan and is now part of Chongqing city. The administrative office was 425 kilometers away from the main urban area of Chongqing. It was the only region in Eastern Sichuan that was dominated by an autonomous county of ethnic minorities.
History
In the Jian'an period (201 AD), Liu Zhang, the shepherd of Yizhou, established Danxing County, which marked the beginning of the establishment of Qianjiang County.
In 280 AD, during the Jin Dynasty, a three-level system of provinces, counties, and townships was implemented. Danxing was abolished, and its territory was incorporated into Fuling and Hanxia counties.
In the fourth year of Baoding in the Northern Zhou Dynasty (564), Fengzhou was established in Pengshui (renamed Qianzhou in the third year of Jiande), and the county was under its jurisdiction.
In the fifth year of Kaihuang in the Sui Dynasty (585), Shicheng County was established.
In the first year of Wude in the Tang Dynasty (618), Shicheng County was changed to be under the jurisdiction of Qianzhou, and in the first year of Tianbao (742), it was renamed Qianjiang, under the jurisdiction of Qian'an County (Qianzhou).
In the early Qing Dynasty, Qianjiang County was under Chongqing Prefecture. In the thirteenth year of Yongzheng (1735), after the "change of soil and return to the stream" of the Youyang Tusi, Youyang Direct State was established, Qianpeng Direct Ten Thousand was abolished, and Qianjiang County was re-established, under the jurisdiction of Youyang Direct State.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), the prefecture was abolished, and the state and hall, Qianjiang was directly under the province.[1]
On November 25, 1949, the Qianjiang County People's Government was established and was under the jurisdiction of the Eastern Sichuan Administrative Region. On January 23, 1950, the Youyang Special Zone was established, and Qianjiang County was under the jurisdiction of the Youyang Special Zone. In September 1952, the Youyang Special Zone was incorporated into the Fuling Special Zone, and Qianjiang became part of the Fuling Special Zone. In November 1983, with the approval of the State Council of China, Qianjiang County was abolished, and the Qianjiang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County was established.[2]
On May 18, 1988, with the approval of the State Council of China, the Qianjiang Region of Sichuan Province was established, governing Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County, Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County, Qianjiang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County, Youyang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County, and Xiushan Tujia and Miao Autonomous County. The Qianjiang Region was the poorest region in the southwest outside of Tibet.
On December 20, 1997, with the approval of the State Council, the Qianjiang Region was abolished, and the "Chongqing Qianjiang Development Zone" was established, taking over the management of the original 5 counties of the Qianjiang Region.[3]
Geography
The Qianjiang Region is located on the southeastern edge of Sichuan Province, in the hinterland of the Wuling Mountains. It borders Xianfeng County of Hubei Province to the east and Lichuan City of Hubei Province to the north. It is the junction of four provinces and cities: Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, and Guizhou.
The highest point is Huiqian Liangzi, with an altitude of 1938.5 meters, and the lowest point is Maskou in the Heixi River Valley, with an altitude of 320 meters.
