Qorin is an 2022 Indonesian religious horror film directed by Ginanti Rona. This film is the second horror film produced by IDN Pictures. It hits Indonesian theaters on December 1, 2022. The story is inspired from qorin or qareen in Islamic teaching. Qorin stars Zulfa Maharani, Omar Daniel, and Aghniny Haque. On the 14th day of its release, this film received more than one billion audiences, making it one of the most best-selling films in Indonesia in 2022.[1] Qorin is set to air on Netflix in April 2023.[2]
Plot
Zahra, a third year student at Rodiatul Jannah boarding school, has always been a model student who has many achievements at school. Zahra became ambitious and willing to obey whatever her teacher orders Ustad Jaelani, in order to get high grades, including receiving the task of taking care of a new student who is known to be naughty named Yolanda and inviting students to perform qorin rituals.[3]
Later, this heretical ritual brought horror to the entire school as Zahra and her friends began to get terrorized and often experienced mystical things in the girls' dormitory. Zahra did not only experience irregularities because Umi Hana, Ustad Jaelani's wife, also found strangeness in the signs and objects stored by her husband.[4]
