Quan Zhou Wu (born December 5, 1989) is a Spanish graphic novelist, illustrator, and podcaster of Chinese descent. She is known for exploring themes of identity, migration, and cultural hybridization in her works. Wu has contributed to publications such as El País, Vogue, and eldiario.es and has lectured at universities including Cornell, Bryn Mawr, and Rutgers.

Early life and education

Wu was born in Algeciras, Spain, to parents from Qingtian, Zhejiang Province, China. Her family moved to Andalusia, where they ran a Chinese restaurant. She spent her childhood in Algeciras and Málaga. She later studied graphic design in Madrid and at the University of Wolverhampton in England, graduating in 2011.[1][2]

Graphic novels

Wu began her career in 2015 with Gazpacho agridulce: Una autobiografía chino-andaluza, a graphic memoir exploring her experiences as a Chinese-Andalusian. She published the sequel Andaluchinas por el mundo in 2017. In 2020, she released Gente de aquí, gente de allí, a graphic essay on migration and identity. Her 2023 work, La Agridolce Vita, continues her exploration of cultural hybridization.

Journalism and editorial work

Wu has contributed articles to eldiario.es, Vogue, and El País, covering cultural and social topics. She has also collaborated with universities on projects about race, identity, and representation.[2]

Podcasting

Wu hosts the podcast Movidas Varias, produced by Plan H Media and distributed by eldiario.es, focusing on voices from minority communities.
