Quarff Primary School

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Quarff Primary School, Shetland, Scotland, was a primary school that provided education for the district around Quarff from 1879 to 2003.

It was established in 1879 with an advertisement in the Glasgow Herald: "... for Quarff New Public School, a Female Teacher (or ex-Pupil Teacher of either sex), to enter immediately. The school has accommodation for about 40 scholars ..."[1]

The school provided primary education for over 120 years, but was closed in 2003 due to a lack of interest in the position of head teacher. The 17 students at the school were moved to Cunningsburgh School, where their former headmistress was working. The students were able to stay together in the same school.

The building is now shown as a library on the Ordnance Survey map.[2]
