r/anime is a subreddit dedicated to the discussion of anime on the social news website Reddit. It is among the largest anime communities on the internet, with more than nine million members as of March 2024.[1][2] The community hosts episode discussions, seasonal viewing threads, and fan works, and organises an annual community-run awards event.
Anime Awards
The community's annual awards project, the r/anime Awards, began in 2016, with a livestreamed ceremony added in 2018.[2] The awards are divided between a public vote, open to general participants, and a jury vote, cast by community members selected through an application process who are required to watch every nominee in a category in full before voting.[1][3] Awards are grouped into main, genre, production, and character categories, with nominees split evenly between jury and public selections.[3]
For 2022, the jury named Encouragement of Climb: Next Summit its anime of the year while the public vote went to Bocchi the Rock!.[3] For 2023, the jury selected BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! and the public chose the second season of Vinland Saga; that edition's ceremony streamed on the same day as the Crunchyroll Anime Awards.[2][1]
