Real Club Deportivo Extremeño, commonly known as RCD Extremeño, was a Spanish football club based in Badajoz, in the autonomous community of Extremadura. Founded in 1917, the club was one of the early pioneers of football in the region before dissolving in 1929.
History
The club was originally founded in 1917 under the name Club Deportivo Extremeño. In its early years, it functioned as one of the prominent football representatives of the city of Badajoz alongside rivals such as CD Badajoz (founded in 1905).
Around 1925, the club obtained royal patronage, subsequently changing its official name to Real Club Deportivo Extremeño. During the late 1920s, the team participated in regional championships and friendly matches within the Extremadura region and neighboring areas.[1][2]
The biggest achievement in history was the participation in 1927 Copa del Rey group stage, scoring 4 goals against Real Madrid CF in one match.[3][4]
Due to growing financial difficulties and the restructuring of Spanish football leagues following the creation of La Liga and national divisions, RCD Extremeño ceased operations and was dissolved in 1929.
