REWAVE Distribution is a digital music distributor based in Switzerland.[1] As a music aggregator, REWAVE provides musicians and other rights-holders the opportunity to distribute and sell or stream their music through online retailers such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Google Play Music, Deezer and others. REWAVE serves as an alternative to traditional music labels, by offering deal structures to artists and independent labels without them giving up ownership or control.

History and background

REWAVE has its roots in social media, where the company worked for over a year as an agency promoting up and coming artists and influencers. From November 2019 onward, REWAVE decided to help artists directly, by offering digital distribution.

Music Industry

The music industry has changed over the past ten years, and digital distribution has transformed the way it is structured. Earlier, artists had to be signed to a record label to gain exposure, but today artists can do so by publishing their music independently through music distributors. Independent artists have complete ownership over their music, manage their finances, and take control of their catalog.

Business model

REWAVE artists keep their music and creative rights, unlike the traditional record labels. Artists can distribute unlimited music for free, but REWAVE retains 10% of the earned royalties. This has been criticized by some artists, but REWAVE is introducing an alternative pricing model.[2]

Beta Phase

In December 2019 REWAVE launched a beta phase, through which artists must apply. They are then selected according to mutual interest. Since then the company has undergone several developments concerning music publishing activity.

Website technology

In March 2020 it was announced that REWAVE is working on a new website, which will be launched by fall 2020.[3] Through a redesigned user dashboard, processes will be automated and facilitated. This should support future growth and increase the execution speed.
