Rachida El Azzouzi (born July 20, 1981) is a French investigative journalist, photograph and documentary filmmaker.[1][2] In 2022, Rachida El Azzouzi won the 3rd Prize at Bayeux Calvados-Normandy War Correspondents Awards in the Written Press category, as well as the Varenne Prize in the category of the National Daily Press for the series of reports "A travers l'Afghanistan, sous les Talibans”.[3][4]

Career[edit]

After twelve years in the regional daily press (L'Eveil de la Haute-Loire, La Montagne) and one year in Egypt covering the 2011 Egyptian Revolution, Rachida El Azzouzi joined the French digital and independent newspaper, Mediapart, in November 2011.[5][6]

In 2022, together with the Franco-Afghan journalist Mortaza Behboudi, she won the 3rd Prize at Bayeux Calvados-Normandy War Correspondents Awards in the Written Press category, as well as the Varenne Prize in the category of the National Daily Press for their series of reports "A travers l'Afghanistan, sous les Talibans”.[3][4][7]

Rachida El Azzouzi is the co-director together with Mortaza Behboudi of the documentary They will not erase us, the fight of the Afghan women, which was produced in 2022 and broadcast on Mediapart and Arte. She is the co-author of the web-documentary Sout el Shabab, (English: The Voice of Young People), shot in collaboration with France Culture, which covered the revolution of January 25, 2011 in Egypt and how it changed the lives of five young Egyptians.[8][9] This documentary was awarded Le Prix Méditerranéen du Journalisme de la Fondation Anna Lindh.[10]

In 2022, Rachida El Azzouzi was nominated by Inge Feltrinelli Prize for her series of reports on the migrant workers' conditions in the construction of the football stadiums before the Qatar World Cup 2022 and the conditions of domestic workers in Qatar.[11][12][13][14]
