Tommy & Jared (Radial Angel 2023)

Radial Angel is an American rock band formed in small town of Noble, Oklahoma, United States. Radial Angel is Jared Taber (vocals/guitar) and Tommy Perkins (drums). The band is best known for their singles; Down, She , Your Name and Not Beautiful. The band toured extensively from 2001 until 2009 when they took a hiatus from performing and writing together. In 2021, the band began releasing new music again.

Music Career

Early Years

Forming in 1999, Radial Angel was a three piece band, Jared (vocals/guitar), Daniel Buckmaster (bass) and Tommy (drums), that began writing music together at their local church. After a short time they added a fourth member, Jeremy Dolezel (guitar) and began playing shows locally in Oklahoma. Their debut album, What A View, was recorded and mixed by Trent Bell (chainsaw kittens) at Bell Labs Recordings in Norman, OK. With only 200 copies printed, they sold them quickly and never reproduced more.

Self-Titled (2000-2001)

With new management and a handful of new songs, the band entered the studio to record their self-titled album recorded by Kevin Lively at West 2nd Studios (now The Music Group) in Oklahoma City, OK. The album produced two singles, which were successful for the band. "Down", the first single, charted high on stations across the country. It reached No. 14 on Progressive Airplay Journal's Rock Top 50 of 2001 and No. 7 on RadioU (Columbus, OH ) 100 Most Wanted Songs of 2000. A video was also produced for "Down" and received rotational airplay on TVU and other shows across the U.S. The self-titled album was named one of the Top 20 Impacting New Artist of 2001 in the Progressive Airplay Journal.

One More Last Time (2002-2003)

In 2002 the band spent a better part of the year recording One More Last Time with Kevin Lively (Rage Against the Machine, Stone Temple Pilots) and Chris Freels (Charlie Hall, Jamie Smith) at West Second Recording in Oklahoma City . The album was released in September 2002 and quickly sold copies. In November of the same year, Warner Bros. Christian music division (Word Records) solicited the band with a record deal[1] Warner Bros. purchased One More Last Time, remixed, repackaged and released[2] the album in March of 2003 under the Squint Entertainment name. The first single released by Warner Bros. was "She". The song was successful on Christian radio and charted across the county. Also released by the label was "Your Name". During the same time a production company approached the band and a video was produced for "Your Name". The "Your Name" video reached No. 4 on TVU's most requested video show. During 2003 the band toured full-time playing over 100 dates. The spring included a tour with the Elms and Holland[3]. In the summer Radial Angel headlined the Can't Stop the Rock Tour.

Summer Fade (2004-2006)

In November of 2003 the band was notified that due to transitions at the label, Warner Bros. Christian would no longer be promoting rock bands. Contracts were not renewed for all the existing 'rock' bands. Radial Angel was preparing to record a new release so they hit the studio in February 2004 to take their next step. In April 2004 the band released the EP Summer Fade which was recorded and produced by Grammy-nominated Eric Delegard at his studio, Reel Time Audio in Denton, TX. The band's EP produced three radio singles that each hit #1 on radio charts across the country, including a #10 charting on the national R&R chart. That charting single was Not Beautiful, which was written as an anthem for anyone who has felt let down by those they trusted with their dreams or careers. The year 2004 brought a full touring schedule including an arena tour,(Acquire The Fire) which placed Radial Angel in front of approximately 90,000 people. The band continued touring with bands like Ever Stays Red, This Beautiful Republic and Something Like Silas through 2006 promoting the Summer Fade EP and looking for suitable labels and management.

Waiting On Love (2007-2008)

The band entered the studio in January of 2007 to begin recording their most progressive album to date, Waiting On Love. Recorded in Orlando, Florida with former drummer of GS Megaphone, Randall Shreve, the album released in the spring of 2007. Waiting On Love produced crowd favorite, Beautiful and the bands ode to touring, Long Way Home. Although the band toured in support of that album, they were never pleased with the way the production sounded on it and had always hoped to re-record and re-release it someday.

How We Grow (2008-2009)

The band recorded and produced How We Grow, an acoustic album, in their own home studio in 2008. The album featured acoustic versions of some of their favorite songs from over the decade of their career. There was one acoustic tour that followed this album release that saw Jared (vocals) and Josh (guitar) playing churches, bars, backyards and college campuses.

The Christmas Sessions 2.0 (2022)

In the summer of 2022, Jared and Tommy reconnected and began working on a full produced version of the independent Christmas album they released in 2005. Christmas Sessions 2.0 was released in November of 2022 on all streaming platforms.

Not Ready (single 2023)

In January of 2023 the band wrote and recorded a brand new song[4], inspired by Jared's wife and son and was release on February 14, 2023 and began a year full of new music coming from the band.

One More Last Time: Acoustic Sessions (2023)

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their major label debut, the band recorded and re-imagined five songs off that album and released it as an EP on August 18th, 2023. This marks the second release of new material from the band in 2023.

Categorization

Radial Angel self-identifies as a rock band but often is categorized as a christian rock band as well. They never set out to be strictly in the christian music market as their songs have never been overtly religious. The band have always said they write songs based on their experiences in life, love and loss. The founding members (Jared & Tommy) were and are still, full believers in Christ and would consider themselves conservative in their biblical worldviews. They still want to create art that anyone can listen to and feel as if they aren't alone in day to day struggles in life.
