Radiant Shipyard Limited (Bengali: রেডিয়েন্ট শিপইয়ার্ড লিমিটেড) is a private limited Ship-Building company based in Bangladesh, founded in 2012.[1]. The company was established by four founders — AKM Alauddin, Syed Ashraful Karim, A.A.R Shahriar and Zaker Ahmed — who continue to hold key leadership roles (Managing Director: AKM Alauddin; Technical Director: Syed Ashraful Karim; Chairman: Zaker Ahmed)[2]
Situated on the riverside of the Shitalakhya River at Daudpur, Rupganj, Narayanganj, Bangladesh, RSL occupies a shipyard facility covering approximately 81,050 square metres.. The company’s head office is located at 186 Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam Sarani, Dhaka, Bangladesh. RSL’s website is rsl.org.bd
Overview
Radiant Shipyard builds marine vessels, including LPG carriers[3][4][5][6][7][8], cargo vessels[9], container vessels[9], tug boats[10], oil tankers[11], fishing trawlers[12][13], cutter suction dredgers, passenger vessels, Ro-Ro ferries, large deck barges, crane boats, etc. The company also undertakes offshore & on-shore steel structures such as pontoons[14][15], double-lane highway steel truss bridges , etc.
Among its specializations are LPG carriers and marine pontoons.[3][4][5][6][7][14]
Key clients include companies such as Bashundhara LP Gas Ltd., Omera Petroleum Ltd., Petromax LPG Limited, as well as government agencies like the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and Mongla Port Authority[16][17]
Notable Achievements
In 2014, RSL delivered two coastal oil tankers. [11] Later, it delivered more oil tankers. Very recently on 2023, they delivered MT. Doreen-14.
In 2014 RSL delivered the vessel MT Omera Princess — a 58.6-metre long, 10.2-metre wide coastal LPG carrier with a shallow-draft of 3.5 m and a capacity of 300 metric tonnes of LPG. It is noted as the first indigenous LPG carrier built in Bangladesh.[4]
In October 2016 the yard won a contract to build a second LPG carrier for Omera Petroleum Ltd., following the delivery of the Omera Princess. [5][6]
On 22 June 2022 RSL held a keel-laying ceremony for four vessels (one self-propelled barge, one tug boat, one pontoon and one dump barge) to be built for the Mongla Port Authority under the project “Establishment of Modern Waste and Spilled Oil Management at Mongla Port”.[17][16][18][19]
On 2017, RSL built 2 LPG Carriers for Bashundhara Group. [7][8]. RSL made LPG carriers for BM Energy BD Ltd. and Petromax LPG Ltd. as well on the same timeline.[3]
RSL secured a major contract funded by The World Bank under the Bangladesh Regional Waterway Transport Project 1 (BRWTP-1) - Package BRWTP-W5A — involving construction/upgradation of landing stations at Alubazar, Bhairab, Hijla and Laharhat for the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA). [14]
