Radio Nemiers is a community-supported radio station from Riga, Latvia. It was founded in 2018 by the now-defunct rock bar Nemiers and DJ 130db (real name: Aigars Sukurs). Nemiers (n.) anxiety, turmoil.
Radio Nemiers broadcasts modern alternative rock and metal, mainly focusing on new music released in the last decade. The music selection is based on sound rather than genre.
The radio station's concept is inspired by the late Radio Wazee, USA. The station features a very diverse selection of artists from more than 50 countries.
History
In 2018, the rock bar Nemiers decided to build its own radio station to play music locally that fit the place and to broadcast live events (concerts and DJ sets). They hired Aigars Sukurs (Latvijas Radio, DJ 130db - rock & metal) to build the internet radio station from scratch in the summer of 2018. On December 1st, the station was launched publicly.[1][2]
On March 31st, 2024, the bar went bankrupt, and the station's ownership was passed to its initial creator and music director, Aigars Sukurs.
On May 18th, 2024, Radio Nemiers was re-launched as a community-supported radio station. Broadcasting from a new physical location, with improved sound, and a new website.
On May 15, 2026, Aigars Sukurs launched a documentation site covering the construction and operation of independent radio stations, written as field notes from his own work building Radio Nemiers.
