Rafael Alun Trisambodo (born 11 August 1967) is a former government official who served as the Head of General Affairs of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Taxation (DJP) of South Jakarta II. He was dismissed from his position and arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in 2023 for allegedly receiving gratification from several taxpayers.[1][2]

Early life and education[edit]

Rafael Alun Trisambodo was born in Jakarta on 11 August 1967. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Indonesia with a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1991. He later obtained a master's degree in accounting from the same university in 2000.[3]

Career[edit]

Rafael Alun Trisambodo joined the Ministry of Finance as a civil servant in 1992. He was assigned to various positions in the Directorate General of Taxation (DJP), such as tax auditor, tax consultant, tax service officer, and tax intelligence officer. He also served as the Head of Tax Office for Large Taxpayers I and II in Jakarta.[4]

In 2017, he was appointed as the Head of General Affairs of the Regional Office of DJP of South Jakarta II, with the rank of echelon III. In this position, he was responsible for managing the administrative and financial affairs of the regional office.[5]

Corruption case[edit]

In March 2023, Rafael Alun Trisambodo was summoned by the KPK for clarification regarding his wealth report as a state official. The KPK found discrepancies between his reported income and assets, as well as indications of tax evasion and money laundering. The KPK also discovered that he had several businesses, including a tax consulting firm called PT AME, which allegedly served as a conduit for receiving gratification from taxpayers.[6]

On 3 April 2023, the KPK named Rafael Alun Trisambodo as a suspect in a corruption case involving gratification worth US$90,000 or equivalent to Rp1.3 billion. He was accused of abusing his authority to facilitate or condition the tax audits and settlements of several taxpayers who were his clients at PT AME. The KPK also seized various evidence from his house and office, such as jewelry, bicycles, cash, and documents.[7]

On 4 April 2023, the KPK detained Rafael Alun Trisambodo at its detention center in Jakarta for further investigation. He was charged with violating Article 12B or Article 11 of Law No. 31/1999 on Corruption Eradication as amended by Law No. 20/2001, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and a fine of Rp1 billion.[8]

Personal life[edit]

Rafael Alun Trisambodo is married and has three children. His son, Mario Dandy Satrio, was involved in a case of assault against a security guard at an apartment complex in Jakarta in February 2023, which sparked public outrage on social media.
