Rahul Suntah (born June 6, 1997) is a Mauritian composer, music producer, recording artist and pianist currently based in Bristol, England.[1][2][3] Rahul is known for his piano covers of popular songs posted on YouTube and Instagram.[1][3]

Early life

Suntah is a classically trained pianist who started learning the piano when he was 8 years old at the Frederic Chopin Conservatory of Music situated in his hometown where he studied ABRSM Piano and Music Theory.[3] Suntah got his Bachelor's Degree in Audio and Music Technology in 2019.[3]

Career and Piano Stories

After finishing high school, Suntah decided to pursue his studies in Audio and Music Technology at the University of the West of England in Bristol, graduating in July 2019 with focus in composition, production and sound engineering.[4] During his time at university he was among the winners of the annual UWE Bristol Talent Show in 2019.[3]

In February 2020, Suntah independently released his debut EP entitled Piano Stories on CD Baby.[5] His piece Paradise Island was praised and supported by BBC Music Introducing and played several times on air.[6] 2 music videos were subsequently released for his pieces Stardust Lullaby and Paradise Island as part of the EP.[7] In August 2020, Rahul was among the finalists of the Mauritian talent show Zenes Montre To Talan depi Lakaz.[8]

In early 2021, Suntah was featured numerous times on BBC Radio Bristol, twice on BBC Music Introducing talking about his original composition Paradise Island, and was once interviewed for his cover of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.[6][9] Suntah also has several videos that went viral on Facebook such as his piano rendition of Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca which has amassed over hundreds of thousands of views and reactions in a few days.[10] Passionate about cinematography and film music, Suntah is now currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Film Scoring on scholarship at the University of Bristol.[5][9] Suntah is also a signature artist at the popular sheet music retail website Musicnotes where he regularly publishes piano arrangements of popular songs as well as original compositions and was featured on the british piano magazine Pianist Magazine in May 2021.[5][11]

Musical Style and Influences

Rahul has been described as a versatile musician and a piano prodigy[3] known for blending classical and electronic elements using piano extended techniques and live loop setups with a Novation Launchpad[1] while also incorporating a wide range of musical genres from Classical, Jazz to Electronic, Rock and Pop in his music.[4] Rahul cites many artists that influenced and inspired him such as Beethoven, Mozart, Hans Zimmer, John Williams, Charlie Puth, Jacob Collier, Daft Punk, Michael Jackson, Queen, Peter Bence, The Piano Guys and much more.[5]
