Raina Kumra
Raina Kumra (born 1977), also known as Raina Kumra Gardiner, is CEO of Juggernaut, a consulting firm focused on digital design, and Managing Director of The Fund LA, a pooled investment vehicle for early stage investments.[1][2] She was co-founder of Internet access provider start-up Mavin, where she also oversaw UX/UI, brand, marketing, and policy strategy.[3][4]
Prior to Mavin, Kumra worked at advertising firms BBH and R/GA and was Director of Digital Strategies at ad agency Wieden+Kennedy.[3][5] She is the former director of Omidyar Network’s Tech Ethics practice.[6] She conceived of and co-produced the guide The Ethical OS: A Guide to Anticipating the Future Impact of Today’s Technology.[6]
Kumra worked in the Obama administration as Co-Director of Innovation at the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) responsible for overseeing US civilian international media, including the Voice of America, Radio y Television Marti, Radio Free Europe, the Middle East Broadcasting Networks, and Radio Free Asia.[3][5][7] Starting in 2011, she served as Senior New Media Advisor at the U.S. Department of State’s Office of eDiplomacy in the Innovation Division.[3][7] She is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a non-profit US-based think tank.[3][8]
She is a Senior Fellow with the Annenberg Innovation Lab at the University of Southern California.[3] Kumra founded Light-Up Malawi, a non-profit organization advocating policy reform and job creation in the country of Malawi through renewable solar, biomass, and wind energy.[5][9]
Kumra earned a Bachelor of Science in Film Production from Boston University, a Master of Arts in Interactive Telecommunications from New York University’s International Telecommunications Program, and a Master in Design Studies for Digital Applications in Urban Planning and Architecture from Harvard University.[3][5][9]
