Raj Sounds and Lights[1] is an Indian Tulu-language comedy drama film directed by Rahul Amin and produced by Vaibhav Flix, a sister company of Mango Pickle Entertainments...[2] It is reportedly the most expensive tulu film ever made. It is the second production from the makers of the Kannada Filmfare Best Film Award (2017) winning film 'Ondu Motteya Kathe'.[3][4][5]

Overview[edit]

The film stars Birbal Trilogy star Vineeth A. Kumar as the lead hero. Yasha Shiva Kumar makes her debut as a female lead, along with other notable actors of tulunadu Karishma Amin, Aravind Bolar and Bhojaraj Vamanjoor, while Umesh Mijar, Ravi Ramakunja, Sandeep Shetty and Prassana Shetty Bailoor play supporting roles.[6][7]

Principal photography began on September 7, 2020 in Mangalore, where the film was extensively shot.[8] The film's soundtrack and background score is composed by Srajan Kumar Tonse with cinematography by National and State Award-winning Paddayi fame Vishnu Prasad P and Jacob Johnson. Editing was done by Plangle Studio Mangalore.[9]

Raj Sounds and Lights was initially scheduled for theatrical release on 27 August 2021, but its release was deferred due to production delays including the COVID-19 pandemic.[10] The film released theatrically on May 20, 2022.[11] It was the first Tulu movie to be premiered in 6 Indian cities, including Mangaluru, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Pune, Mumbai, Vadodara and 11 countries such as Saudi Arabia, USA, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE (Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai) United Kingdom, Nigeria, Israel, Oman and Zambia.[11][12]

The film celebrated its 50 day theatrical run on July 8, 2022, and the production team announced that ticket receipts from that day would be donated to struggling artists.[13][14]

Premise[edit]

Rishi, the only son of Rajanna who is a well known event manager, struggles to prove himself worthy to his father. Meanwhile, he wins a large wedding contract for a respected family only to find out that there are many unforeseen problems at the event. Rishi gets stuck between proving himself to his father by making the event successful and also solving other problems. The plot is driven by his events to solve the problems and make the event a success.[15][16]

The first schedule was shot in September and October 2020.[20][8]

The second schedule resumed shooting on January 10, 2021.[20]

The entire film was shot in 36 days in Mangalore, B C Road Punjalkatte and Gurvankere.[21]

The film's score and soundtrack was composed by Srajan Kumar Tonse.[6][22]

Theatrical release[edit]

  • The film had multiple special world premieres across many countries starting with Dubai on April 24, 2022 at Marco Polo Hotel Ballroom, Al Muteena, Deira [25][26][27]followed by Bahrain, Kuwait and other Gulf Countries.
  • Raj Sounds and Lights released theatrically on 20 May 2022. The film's release was deferred multiple times; earlier it was scheduled to be released on February 11, 2022.[28][29]
  • On May 2, the film was released at Salalah Gardens Mall in Oman.
  • On May 15, the film was released in UAE at Novo Cinemas.[30]
  • It became the first Tulu movie to be released in Canada on May 28, which is presented by Tulu Koota Canada in association with Mysore Studio house Canada[31]
  • On June 5 it was released in Australia at Hoyts blacktown (located in Westpoint Blacktown) Cinema 10, Sydney, Australia, which is presented by Tulu Koota Sydney.[32]
  • On June 10 it was released in Bahrain.
