Raja Magotra is an Indian born Para Badminton player who has won a Bronze medal at the BWF Para Badminton Championships, 2017 in the SS6 category. He is supported by the GoSports Foundation through the Para Champions Programme
Early life and background[edit]
Born on 6th December 1984 Raja is resident of Raniganj, West Bengal. He suffers from Achondroplasia (short stature: dwarfism) and hails from a modest background and has no family support. He is currently living with his uncle and works as an assistant coach through which he supports his sports-related expenses.
Career[edit]
Raja developed a keen interest in badminton and started playing in 2012 with able-bodied players. After observing Raja’s natural talent at the sport, the coach at the court where he used to play, Sandeep Kumar Sharma, offered to train him free of cost. Raja eventually progressed in the game and won the gold medal in singles & doubles events at the National Championships in 2015. After winning the national championships he partnered with Mark Dharmai (also supported by GoSports Foundation) in men’s doubles and with Ruchi in mixed doubles events to represent India at the international tournaments
