Rama Dauhan is an Indonesian fashion designer. He is known as the founder of Rama Dauhan Design Studio and Rama Dauhan Gold, and serves as the Head Designer for the brand MASSHIRO&Co.[1][2] With over two decades of experience in the fashion industry, Dauhan is recognized for his edgy and original design lines in both women's and men's fashion collections.[2]
Early life and education
Rama Dauhan studied fashion at ESMOD Jakarta, the Jakarta branch of the prestigious ESMOD Paris fashion school, graduating in 2003.[2] He specialized in men's clothing and was the recipient of the Golden Needle Award for being one of the top graduates.[2]
Career
Early career
After graduating in 2003, Dauhan joined the creative team at (X)S.M.L as a women's clothing designer for nearly eight years.[2] This experience provided him with the foundation to help rebuild Danjyo Hiyoji in 2010–2012, alongside two colleagues.[2]
In 2012, Dauhan opened his own fashion atelier focusing on custom-made orders.[2] He later established Rama Dauhan Design Studio, which caters to bridal, evening wear, and ready-to-wear orders, focusing on timeless design, luxurious pieces, unique details, and personalized service.[2][3]
Rama Dauhan Gold
Dauhan launched his bridal line, Rama Dauhan Gold, which made its debut at Jakarta Fashion Week 2026 with the collection "Aku Berharga" (I Am Valuable).[4][5] The collection was inspired by his late mother's 50-year-old wedding gown, which he restored stitch by stitch.[4] It featured soft embroidery, scattered beads, three-dimensional florals, and subtle heart motifs.[4]
The collection was presented as part of "The Love Letter" showcase, a collaboration between InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah and the Indonesian Fashion Designer Council (IPMI), alongside veteran designer Didi Budiardjo.[4][5]
Head Designer of MASSHIRO&Co.
Dauhan officially joined MASSHIRO&Co. as Head Designer for all of its collections in 2022.[1] In this role, he has led the design of several seasonal collections, including:
- "INTRO" – the brand's first collection under Dauhan's direction, featuring classic white shirts reimagined with vibrant colors.[1]
- "Monsoon" – the second collaborative collection, featuring asymmetrical details, unconventional cuts, intricate patterns, and cascading drapery in a palette of indigo blue, khaki, moonbeam, and off-white.[6]
Collaborations
Dauhan has collaborated with various brands and designers, including:
- Benang Jarum – creating a collection titled "Hujan Bulan Juni" (June Rain), inspired by the poem of the same name by Sapardi Djoko Damono, blending Benang Jarum's feminine elegance with Dauhan's exploratory design approach.[7]
- UNIQLO – collaborating on the RE.UNIQLO STUDIO sustainability program, designing five exclusive embroidery and sashiko themes inspired by Indonesian lifestyle.[8]
- 3Mongkis – curating the "Unity" collection.[8]
- Didi Budiardjo – presenting "The Love Letter" evening wear and bridal collection at Jakarta Fashion Week 2026.[4][5]
Fashion shows
Dauhan regularly participates in prestigious fashion events, including:
- Jakarta Fashion Week – showcasing collections such as "Pusat Hati" for his 20-year career milestone in 2024, featuring monochrome designs with floral details.[2]
- Fashion Nation 17th Edition – presenting the "Harmoni" collection featuring brightly colored flora and fauna motifs.[9]
- Plaza Indonesia Men's Fashion Week – participating in denim-themed showcases.[10]
Design style and philosophy
Dauhan is known for his edgy, original, and exploratory design style.[2] He experiments with volume, intricate details, and bold cutting techniques. He is also known for his romantic approach and neat garment cutting.[2]
Dauhan draws inspiration from his emotions and personal experiences, translating them into fashion.[11] He is also committed to sustainability, reducing fashion waste through custom-made orders and supporting upcycling movements.[8]
