S. Ramana Girivasan (born June 30, 1972) is a screenplay writer who predominantly works in the Tamil film and television industry. He rose to prominence when he wrote screenplay and penned dialogues for actor Vijay’s Theri[1] and Mersal[2] directed by Atlee[3]. Before his foray into the film industry he headed the fiction team at Star TV’s tamil regional channel Vijay TV. In his tenure at Vijay TV for 8 years he introduced the new age storytelling on tamil television moving away from loud melodramatic tv series on other channels to drama series which were earthy and realistic .[4]

The iconic television series namely kanaa Kaanum kaalangal, office and Madurai written by him captivated audiences .He played a massive role in the transformation of Vijay TV as a destination for fiction shows.[5]

His Early life and Education[edit]

Ramana Girivasan was born in Thiruchendur on 20th August, 1972. He completed his schooling in St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School in Palayamkottai. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business administration (1989-1992) from Adithanar College of arts and science after which he went to The Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu where he did his D.F.T (Direction and screenplay writing) from 1992-1995. He also holds a degree in M.B.A and M.A (Sociology).

Early Career and Growth[edit]

After completion of his director course from Chennai film institute he started his career an assistant director in tamil movies . He has dabbled his hands as an actor in many popular tamil movies namely Shree, Kovil, Saamy and Maayavi [6] acting with leading tamil heroes like Suriya , Vikram[7] and Simbu. His journey in Television started at APT TV and worked on format shows for all the leading channels in the south and also the Hindi channels like Channel V. In his recent avatar as content producer under the banner FICTION TEAM he continues to deliver content for TV and digital platforms.[8]

Khaki , Mappillai and Naam Iruvar Nammaku Iruvar[9] are some of his popular television shows. He continues to enthrall film and TV audiences with his unique style of writing and creativity.
