Ramgarh Hill is a hilltop temple in the Village of Gandabahali in the in Indian state of Odisha. The development of the temple is being done by Ramgarh Vikas Manch (RVM). According to an ancient belief, Lord Ram brother Lakshma and wife Sita had resided in the exile period.

Ramgarh Hill is a popular tourist attraction in the local area and is also known as the place of worship of Maa Gadiani (Goddess of Gandabahali village). Ramgarh Hill[1] is located about 2 km away from Gandabahali Bus Stand, 88 kilometres (55 mi) south of the district headquarters of Nuapada[2] and 443 km (275 mi) from Odisha's capital, Bhubaneswar.

The BDO of Sinapali Block has awarded Ramgarh Hill as "Best Tourist Places" in Sinapali Block. The number of tourists here is increasing every year, hence Ramgarh Vikas Manch is demanding from the Odisha Government to develop it as a tourist destination.

Maa Gadiani Goddess is the main protector of Gandabahali village. The temple of the goddess is situated in the Ramgarh Hill. Some people say that Goddess Maa Gadiani resides in Ramgarh Hill. Every year a festival called "Chhatar Jatra" at a particular time is organised and many people who have fulfilled wishes come and sacrifice animals in the name of goddess.

It is said that a man named Ramaganda (ରମାଗଣ୍ଡ ମାଝୀ) lived with his wife in the area where the Village high School is Established today. Unfortunately, due to some reason Ramaganda wife passed away untimely, So Ramaganda Majhi did not forget his wife and started worshiping her in the form of "Duma" (Spirit). In later times this "Duma" (Spirit) came to be worshiped as a Deity in the Gandabahali[3] region. According to the regional Language, the feminine form of Gun (Majhi) is Ganen, that is the goddess was named Ramganen after the name of Ramaganda. The area where the Ramganda (Majhi) family lived, came to be known as Ramgarh and since Ramganen Devi was revered in those Ramgarh hill,[4] the name of the goddess later came to be known as Ram Gadiani (ଗଢ଼ିଆଣୀ)

Maa herself is said to have performed brilliantly and constructed the stone walls and the Jenakhal (a deep pit) at Ramgarh Hill, which exist as witnesses to the eternal past. At the foothills of the Ramgarh Hill, a huge elephant-shaped rock (Hati Pakhan) has stood as a protective barrier since time immemorial, which today has become a tourist attraction for the people of the area. According to the name of Ramganda (Majhi), the name of Ramgarh Hill and Ram Gadiani and the Village is heard as Gandabahali.

Chatar Jatra[edit]

Chhatra Jatra or Chatar Jatra or Chatar Yatra are meant to celebrate the Vijaya utsav with cheerful heart and splendid display. The festival is being celebrated during the Dussehra. The ritual practice of Khonds performed during the festival. Maa Gadiani leaves from Dharnisala early in the morning and Chhatra Yatra begins with village tour. After completing the circumambulation of the Village, Maa Gadiani goes to Jenakhal situated on the Ramgarh hill at midnight on the day of Chhatar Jatra. Jenakhal which is at about 1 km distance from the Gandabahali. A bamboo covered with colourful cloth represents Maa Gadiani in the Chhatra jatra.

The Elephant Stone[edit]

The largest elephant[5] stone is located on Ramgarh Hill near Gandabahali[6] village in Odisha, India. Elephant Stone is a partially natural stone of historical and religious importance and is considered to be the oldest elephant stone of undivided Kalahandi district.

The Elephant stone is also called "Hati Pakhan" (Sambalpuri Language) "Hati" Means "Elephant" & Pakhan means "Stone" which means elephant-shaped stone. Hence its name "Hati Pakhan" because it looks like a whole elephant. Now it is a famous tourist spot of Gandabahali region.
