Early Life

Randy Berlin was born in Shipston-on-Stour, England and raised in Canada most of his life. He is an only child whose voice was discovered by one of his aunts while singing to a song on the radio at the early age of nine, and he immediately started writing songs at that very age. As a child he was always considered oddly gifted and extremely talented; his grandmother used to refer to him as being 'extraterrestrial'.

Berlin was impressed with the music of 'Electric Light Orchestra' and the 'The Midnight Special' series rerun aired on cable TV when he was still a kid, which inspired him to pursue his musical career. It was not until he was 11 that he started learning piano, then guitar, drums and bass.

At the age of 15, eager and ready to record his music, Randy reached out to Gilbert, a friend of the family, for help, since he was a professional musician and producer. After a few sessions, Gilbert had to abandon Randy's project in order to take care of his own two bands and other productions he had programmed. Nevertheless, he did not abandon Randy, instead he pushed him to turn himself into his very own recording engineer, and provided some equipment and software to do so. After reading the credits of an 'Electric Light Orchestra' album, Randy realized that if Jeff Lynne could do most of the production, arrangements, instrumentation and engineering by himself, he could do it too.

By the age of 16, Randy had recorded and produced 25 'demo' songs and began to book shows in both school and city festivals. Since he had no band, Randy recorded his very own backing-tracks to perform live. People wouldn't believe he recorded them himself. Due to both bad economic circumstances and his multiple upcoming shows, Randy had to drop out of high school to work and pursue his career.[5]

Career

In 2016, Randy Berlin created a YouTube series of Tribute cover songs dedicated to major music stars around the world, such as Miley Cyrus, The Everly Brothers, Annie Lennox, Lana Del Rey, Kansas, Ed Sheeran, Rod Stewart, Juan Gabriel, Beatles, Roberto Carlos, Abba, Bee Gees, John Legend, Hellogoodbye, Barbra Streisand, Shakira, George Michael and many others.

After two years of recordings, Randy began touring North America; while touring Mexico, Randy suffered a mishap that led him to Los Angeles, California. Where, in the middle of the COVID19 pandemic Randy met one of his personal heroes, the legendary rock & roll photographer Ed Caraeff, who gifted him an amicable photo shoot for his album cover entitled "An Angel Feather". The photography session took place at Zox's Art Studio in Santa Monica, where the Grammy Award winner cinematographer and film director Doug Nichol was documenting everything. A couple of weeks after the session, the iconic Rodney Bingenheimer played "An Angel Feather" on international radio SiriusXM. The surprise encouraged Randy to create a video clip for the song, so Ed Caraeff suggested that Zox would be the perfect man for the job. The "An Angel Feather" video clip was filmed in both Santa Monica and Baldwin Park and has achieved winning 7 International Film Festival Awards and 7 nominations.[6][7][8][9][10]

The unexpected success of the video clip propelled a burst of creativity in Zox, who proposed Randy that they should create a real life size cutout for Randy's performances around Los Angeles and Hollywood, including TV. So they did, although it didn't stop there. Zox then came up with the extravagant and unique idea to develop a poster in motion, called "MoPo" (stands for 'Motion Poster'), for the promotion of Randy's shows, the "MoPo" can be seen on giphy.com Randy's official website.[11][12]

Quantum Pop

In order to properly promote Randy's music, while trying to define his music genre, Zox baptised Randy's music as "Quantum Pop"; a new music genre perfectly defined in a copyrighted manifesto written by Zox and Randy Berlin themselves.[13]
