Rani Malik (born 17 January 1960) is an Indian lyricist who has written songs in Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994)[1] Yaarana[citation needed] (1995), Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam (2002) etc. Her most famous song was "Chura Ke Dil Mera" in the film Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), which became a huge hit. It was recreated in 2021 for the film Hungama 2.[2] She was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist for the song "Dheere Dheere Se" of the film Aashiqui and earned Screen Award for Best Lyricist for the song "Dhadakta Tha Pehle" from the film Kartavya (1995).[3]

Career[edit]

Rani Malik started writing songs in late 1980s. She shot to fame with the evergreen song "Dheere Dheere Se" in the film Aashiqui (1990). It was sung by Anuradha Paudwal and Kumar Sanu. Due to It's popularity, Yo Yo Honey Singh made a remake version of it in 2015. It starred Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor in the music video.[4] She again churned out another evergreen hit "Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen" in Baazigar (1993). Kumar Sanu bagged Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for that song.

In 2001, she wrote two songs in Aishwarya Rai starrer film Albela. Jatin–Lalit composed all songs of this film. "Dil Hamara Hua Hai Kisi Ka" sung by Alka Yagnik and Hariharan and "Hato Tum Baju", sung by Sonu Nigam were picturized on her.[citation needed] In 2001, she wrote a song "Ek Chumma Tu Mujhko Udhar De De", composed by Anand–Milind and picturized on Shilpa Shetty and Govinda. This was sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. A defamation case was filed against all of them on 21 May, 2001.[5]
