History
Rankiteo was founded in 2021 by Jeremy Canale, an information security specialist, and Maochao Xu, professor and former Director of the Department of Mathematics at Illinois State University.[1]
In 2025, the company launched a platform providing automated third-party risk scoring[2] and benchmarking to support organizations and insurers in evaluating cyber exposure and underwriting cyber insurance.[3]
On 5 April 2025, Rankiteo announced plans to provide a free cybersecurity score for 100 million companies worldwide.[4]
In September 2025, the platform expanded to include a publicly accessible global cybersecurity incident database, used by companies and public institutions.[5]
Technology
The Rankiteo platform uses large-scale internet scanning to identify exposed assets, vulnerabilities, and misconfigurations in real time.[6] Its scoring system combines active probing with passive data collection from sources such as DNS, SSL/TLS, vulnerability databases, breach reports, and darknet monitoring. The results are aggregated into a cybersecurity score ranging from 0 to 1000.
