RareGuru is a social smartphone application[1][2] launched in May of 2020, designed to connect "caregivers, parents, and patients"[3] with rare diseases. The app was created by 13-year-old Claire Barrow and her family[4][5] after she, her mother and grandmother were diagnosed with the genetic disease hypophosphatasia in 2019.[6]
Claire is credited for the idea and creating the app because she wanted to create a community where she could connect with other people with similar diagnosis or symptoms[4] especially those who are near her age, according to Global Genes.[7] Claire is also credited for her contribution toward the family's therapy pigs at local hospital.[8]
