Brittany Rae Leach (born August 30, 1985), also known as Raye Richards, is an American reality television personality, film actress and marketing director. She was a contestant on A Shot at Love II with Tila Tequila and appeared in the films The Phantom Hour and South of 8.
Career[edit]
Leach worked the nightlife and club experience in Hillcrest, San Diego for over a decade,[1] becoming the marketing director for a women's bar called Gossip Grill. This set up the opportunity to help put in place Barrel & Board, an environment for queer women.[2][3][4] In 2022, Leach sanctioned to have Naloxone available in bars and nightclubs to help fight the growing Fentanyl crisis.[1] She was awarded Hillcrest Icon at Hillcrest Honors in 2023.[5]
Leach acted in films under the alias Raye Richards. She portrayed Lola 5 in South of 8, an indie crime film by Tony Olmos. Emilie Black at Cinema Crazed said she "basically steals the show while she’s on screen."[6] In the film The Phantom Hour, Brian Schaer at Film Threat said they "love the manner in which Richards rolls her eyes" and that she and her cast members "all work with subtlety and underact".[7]
Leach was a special guest at Horrible Imaginings Film Festival in 2016[8] and was cast in the films The Playground in 2017[9] and The Samuel Project in 2018.[10]
2008: A Shot at Love II with Tila Tequila[edit]
Leach was a top three contestant on A Shot at Love II with Tila Tequila.[11][12][13] Before elimination, she won challenges,[14][15] got her belly button pierced,[16][17] admitted to never hearing or saying "I love you,"[15] and had Tila Tequila over for a visit to meet her father, best friend and roommate.[18][19][20] While in Cancún, Leach won a challenge that allowed her to choose which days she and her other contestants would go on a date with Tequila.[11][21] On their date, Leach did her best to persuade Tequila she was "the one,"[22] but in the end, Tequila told her she did not think the two of them had chemistry.[11][23][24]
Reception[edit]
Lisa Chudnofsky at MTV said Leach was "Quietest in the house, but (somewhat) classy."[25] Season 1 contestant and MTV columnist Amanda Ireton wrote that "Brittany is either the sweetest, most thoughtful girl on the planet, or has mad game."[26] Leading up to the reunion, Ireton claimed "Brittany will have to contain the waterworks long enough to say sappy, disingenuous things."[27] They disagreed with Tequila's decision on letting Leach go.[28]
Madeleine Desmond at People Magazine said that during the show's reunion, season 2 winner Kristy Morgan admitted that "she thought a still broken-hearted Brittany could have been in her place," but Leach had moved on.[29]
Nicole Richter at Wright State University said that Leach's outlook on the similarities between the show's lesbians and straight men are a factor why the contestants could not understand Tequila's attraction to men. They referred to Leach describing the disgust lesbians have with men as the same distaste men have with each other.[30]
Personal life[edit]
Leach's father was not part of her childhood,[31] but she located him when she was 16.[18][12][20]
