Raymond Joseph Neary (born February 5, 1953) is an American politician and businessman; he is a candidate in the 2021 mayoral election in Omaha, Nebraska.[1] Neary has prior experience in city government, having served as president and chairperson of Investors Realty.[1]
Early life, education and career[edit]
Neary was born on February 5, 1953, in Armstrong, Iowa, a small city near the Iowa–Minnesota border.[2] He was one of five children.[3] His parents raised hogs and grew crops on a small farm, RJ learned the importance of these values quickly through his chores on the farm. Neary moved to omaha at age of 10.[4] His paperboy route in Dundee.[5] RJ graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School in 1971, In 1975 Neary earned a degree in Agricultural economics in economics from University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
Business career[edit]
Neary began his career in econmics. After graduating from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Neary worked as a real estate development, In 1976 Neary opened his own bar in Omaha, continuing his journey of entrepreneurship.[6]
In 1987, Neary was elected to President and Chairman of Investors Realty, he still serving until this day.[7]
after 1987 neary served as chair of the Omaha Planning Board and has been involved in the Omaha by Design Board of Directors, Urban Land Institute, Omaha Habitat for Humanity, and Catholic Charities (U.S.A.) just to name a few.
In 2004, Neary was appointed to Chairmen of the Omaha Planning Board by Mike Fahey.

2021 Omaha mayoral election[edit]
In November 2020, Neary announced his candidacy her candidacy for Mayor of Omaha.[8] Neary raised $1,057,678 for campaign, compared to $2,350,249 raised by Jean Stothert in primary election. Neary received 15.52% of votes in a primary election of April 6, 2021.[9] In general election neary will face Incumbent mayor Jean Stothert in May 11, 2021, Neary raised $784,897 for campaign, compared to $2,087,173 raised by Jean Stothert during general election.[10] He lost
