Raymond Theodore Wolf (October 26, 1929- December 22, 2011) was an American Executive and Industrialist who was the President of WEMCO, INC.

Early Life[edit]

Wolf was the fifth child born in Mount Pulaski, Illinois to Illinois politician Theodore Herman Wolf (1889-1963) and Mildred A. Harnish. He was the youngest of four sisters: Ella, Gertrude, Esther, and Dorothy. His Father was of German descent, while his mother was of French descent.[1] His father, Theodore, was first a farmer and then a politician after being elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in 1925.[2] His mother, Mildred, was a homemaker and a devout Lutheran.[3]

Education[edit]

Wolf attended public school in Mount Pulaski, Illinois, where he graduated from Mount Pulaski High School in 1947.[4] In the late 1950s he attended the University of Illinois, graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering.[5]

Military Career[edit]

Wolf enlisted in the United States Army on July 13th, 1950 at the age of 21.[6] After completing basic training at Camp Crowder in Missouri, Wolf was assigned to the 1st Armored Division at Fort-Wood, Texas as an Infantry Platoon Leader.[7] In 1951, Wolf left for Camp Stoneman in California and was reassigned for overseas duty with the American Far East Command.[8] He was honorably discharged from the United States Army on April 9th, 1952.[9]

Marriage and Family[edit]

Wolf married Joan Hubbard (1929-2012) on June 11th, 1955 in Logan County, Illinois. The newlywed couple settled in Decatur, Illinois, of where they purchased dairy farm and developed it into residential sub-division (Wolf Road) where they resided, and raised their four kids.

WEMCO, INC.[edit]

In 1978, Wolf alongside Robert M. Dale, Micheal Nikovich, Robert E. Young, and Howard Bold established WEMCO, INC, an engineering and manufacturing company headquartered in Decatur, Illinois.[10] Wolf became the President of WEMCO, INC in 1979. The company offered engineering consulting, design reviews, product & prototype testing, process & procedure development, heat treatment, radio graphic inspection, machine design & drafting, and manufacturing of nuclear components.[11] WEMCO, INC ceased its operations 5 years later in 1983.[12]

In 1995, Wolf retired from mechanical engineering and began developing health problems in the early 2000s.[13] By 2009, Wolf had three heart attacks, and two open heart surgeries, he was admitted into hospitals several times during his last 2 years.[14] Wolf died in his home in Decatur, Illinois, on December 22nd, 2011, from heart failure at the age of 82.[15] He was buried in the Camp Butler National Cemetery with military rites.[16]
