Reach Beyond

Reach Beyond is a global non-profit missionary organization located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Reach Beyond uses radio, media, medicine, community development, refugee ministries and pastoral training to share Jesus and make disciples among unreached peoples around the world. Reach Beyond has helped start more than 600 Christian radio stations in over 100 countries[1]

History[edit]

Reach Beyond was founded by Clarence Jones in 1931, with the help of Reuben Larson and Stuart Clark. The mission started the world's first missionary radio station, HCJB, in Quito Ecuador and aired its first program on Christmas Day, 1931.[2] The mission would broadcast programs in many local languages and dialects as well as major international languages via shortwave radio and FM/AM radio. Reach Beyond ended all of its shortwave broadcasts from Pifo, Ecuador in 2009, [3] however it does continue to broadcast shortwave programs from Kununnura, Australia [4]and other sites. Radio station HCJB was transferred to local leadership and broadcasts on several frequencies (in Spanish) throughout Ecuador and online.[5]

Reach Beyond began medical ministries in Ecuador in 1949. The mission started several hospitals (including Hospital Vozandes-Quito) and clinics in Ecuador. It also did mobile medical caravans and community development projects including clean water wells and potable water systems.[6]
