RedAwning Group is a vacation rental platform that provides hotel-style online booking services for vacation rental properties.[1]
History[edit]
RedAwning was founded in March 2010 in Berkeley,[2] California by Tim Choate. In Fall 2017, the company raised over $40 Million in funding.[3][4] Silversmith Capital Partners led the round.[2] The funding was used to double its staff and expand its business model to other territories.[5]
In 2015, RedAwning Group completed the acquisition of Perfect Places, Inc. A vacation rental listing website for an undisclosed amount.[6]
In February 2017, RedAwning partenered up with Expense management provider TravelBank to offer user incentives to corporate clients.[7] Later in March, the company acquired VaycayHero, a vacation rental site for properties in the United States.
In April 2017, RedAwning began taking steps to comply with a San Francisco city ordinance that required companies that collect a fee to arrange rentals of unregistered homes to register these properties.[8]
In October 2017, the company was chosen by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the fastest growing companies in the Bay Area.[9]
In February 2018, Inntopia announced a RedAwning integration.[10]
In April 2018, RedAwning bought web services company Blizzard Internet Marketing and rebranded to RedAwning Group.[11] The Blizzard purchase price was not disclosed.[12] This purchase was followed by a Choice Hotels integration with RedAwning.[13]
In May 2018, RedAwning Group partnered up with Choice Hotels to increase the number of condominiums in 35 US resort destinations.[14]
Functionality[edit]
RedAwning operates by partnering up with competitors' websites like Expedia, Priceline and Booking.com to insert itself as a liaison between the guest and the property manager to improve the vacation rental experience.[12] Unlike most short-term rental sites, RedAwning does not require a proof of identification like a photo or driver’s license.[15]
In June 2018, RedAwning partnered up with Amazon to offer their services through Amazon's Alexa for Hospitality technology[16][17]
Operations[edit]
As of 2018, the company offers over 100,000 unique rental properties in over 10,000 destinations, including 40,00 properties in North America on behalf of 800 property managers.[12]
