RedBox Storage Limited. is a Hong Kong company and the largest storage operator with more than 400,000 sqft and 5 locations. Originally founded as Big Orange Self Storage in 2007, RedBox Storage underwent a rebranding in 2015, taking its current name and brand identity. RedBox Storage is currently run by CEO Tim Alpe.
History
RedBox Storage has its roots under the name Big Orange Self Storage, a business operating in both Hong Kong and Singapore. However, despite the assets being split based on region, the operating business remained in Hong Kong.
In 2015, the company was formed along with the lease of a single property in Sha Tin with a gross floor area of 141,000 square feet.
During the following year, in 2016, RedBox Storage managed to secure additional properties in Chai Wan, Wong Chuk Hang, and San Po Kong to further expand its locations and storage portfolio to a gross total of 164,000 square feet.
In 2017, the business started to expand its services by acquiring several businesses. One of which was Stuff Genie, a valet business operating in Hong Kong, as well as two storage facility operators in Tsuen Wan, Your Space and Minibox. During this year, RedBox Storage was awarded the Trophy of Excellence for Most Valuable Services in Hong Kong by Mediazone.
In 2018, RedBox Storage acquired another operator in Yau Tong whilst expanding their own facilities there, growing to a gross total of 264,000 square feet. This year, the business also formed a partnership with global real estate management & advisor BentallGreenOak [3][4](then known as InfraRed NF) where the business acquired a 90% stake in RedBox Storage.
The following year marked a rapid expansion into the New Territories region. Expanding their own facilities to Tuen Mun and again acquiring another operator in Tsuen Wan, RedBox Storage grew to a total of 353,000 square feet. The company was also awarded the 2019 Platinum Award for Charter on External Lighting from the Environment Bureau.
In 2020, the business further acquired Minibox[5], which had facilities in Chai Wan and Kwun Tong, and was awarded the Caring Company 2020/21 by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service.
Lastly, in 2021, RedBox Storage began to consolidate the Minibox facilities, growing its own to a gross total of nearly 400,000 square feet. This year, RedBox Storage became the first operator certified under the S.A.F.E program [6][7] in the Tuen Mun, and later Chai Wan and Yau Tong, facilities with the introduction of Firebox[8]
