Reflex Aerospace is a German NewSpace startup founded in 2021, with headquarters in Munich and Berlin. The company specializes in designing and manufacturing small satellite platforms between 75 and 500 kilograms, with an accelerated build-to-launch timeline of approximately 12 months.[1]

History

Reflex Aerospace was founded in 2021 by Walter Ballheimer and Alexander Genzel in Munich. The company later expanded operations to Berlin. Its mission is to offer rapid-deployment, payload-specific satellites using modular systems, 3D printing, and verticalized design to reduce part count and manufacturing time.[2]

Projects and Partnerships

Media Broadcast Satellite (MBS)

In June 2023, Reflex announced its first commercial contract with German ground services provider Media Broadcast Satellite (MBS). Under the SIGI mission, Reflex developed a 120 kg satellite for launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 in early 2025.[3]

SIGI Launch

On 14 January 2025, Reflex successfully launched its first satellite, SIGI on SpaceX's Transporter 12.

Umbra Collaboration

In April 2025, Reflex and U.S.-based synthetic aperture radar (SAR) company Umbra announced plans to integrate Umbra’s SAR payloads into Reflex’s satellite buses. The joint effort aims to deliver advanced SAR capability to European customers by 2027.[4]

Sidus Space Agreement

At Space Tech Expo Europe in November 2024, Reflex signed a letter of intent with Florida-based aerospace company Sidus Space (NASDAQ: SIDU). The agreement focuses on co-developing dual-use satellite platforms for transatlantic commercial and government markets.[5]

Telespazio Germany

In October 2023, Reflex entered into a partnership with Telespazio Germany to provide ground-segment and mission-control support for future Reflex satellite missions.[6]

Technology

Reflex Aerospace focuses on delivering customizable 75–500 kg satellites within one year. Its technology stack includes vertically integrated manufacturing and digital engineering methods to streamline component design. The company reports efforts to reduce traditional satellite part counts from ~1,000 to under 100, enhancing scalability and production speed.[2]

Financing

As of mid-2023, Reflex had raised around €9 million in early-stage funding, including €1.75 million in a seed investment round.[7]
