Reforestum is a for profit corporation founded by Spanish software engineer Diego Sanz on February 23, 2017[1]. The company is headquartered in Laguna de Duero, Spain.
Its mission is to “stop climate change through the massive reforestation of our planet.” Reforestum offers a web app that allows individuals and businesses to calculate their carbon footprints and offset them by planting forests that generate carbon offsets. Lizzy Hill of Snapmonk.com wrote a 2017 product review in which she described Reforestum as making “carbon offsetting as easy as ordering an Uber[2].”

Reforestum earned its initial funding through crowdfunding platforms Kickstarter[3] and Indiegogo[4]. In a February 2016 campaign on Kickstarter.com, the company raised €41,130 from 865 backers. On Indiegogo.com, Reforestum raised an additional €4,792 from 92 backers on a campaign that completed in March of 2017.
Reforestum launched the first version of its web app on launched 5th of November 2017. The designs for the app were developed in partnership with Significa[5], a design firm based in Porto, Portugal.
Project Sites[edit]
With capital raised from crowdfunding, Reforestum planted its first forest named Génesis in Picos de Europa, Spain on April 11, 2017. The initial forest covers 49,000 m². The Génesis forest was granted accreditation as a carbon capture project by the Spanish Ministry of the Environment (Mapama) through its bureau of climate change on February 14, 2018.
The company’s founder Diego Sanz has stated that he plans to expand Reforestum’s forests to the Amazon, South East Asia, Africa, and North America.
