Career
Rehana Dar is a Pakistani politician who rose to national prominence during the 2024 Pakistani general election. She is the mother of Usman Dar, a former leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). She entered politics after her son announced his retirement from active politics following the May 9 riots.
2024 Election and Controversy
Dar contested the 2024 election from the NA-71 (Sialkot-II) constituency as an independent candidate backed by the PTI. Her primary opponent was the veteran PML-N leader and former Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif.
The election was marked by significant controversy. According to Form 45 data cited by Dar and her legal team, she was leading by a substantial margin. However, the final Form 47 results released by the Election Commission of Pakistan declared Khawaja Asif the winner. Dar challenged these results in the Lahore High Court, alleging that the mandate of the people had been "stolen" through administrative interference.
Political Stance
Throughout her campaign, Dar emphasized themes of resilience and justice, often appearing in public rallies representing the PTI's presence in Sialkot after the party faced a crackdown.
