The Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale (RAI) is an annual Assyriological Conference in a world congress for specialists in Ancient Near Eastern Studies.
History[edit]
The creation of the Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale was the initiative of a group of French scholars.[1] In 1950, for the first time after the Second World War, representatives of the Classical Studies met.[2] Since then, the congress has taken place almost annually in the centres of ancient orientalist research, in Paris, London, Rome, Leiden, Chicago, Philadelphia and Cambridge (USA) and Germany.[3]
The congress usually lasts five days and is usually devoted to a specific topic, on which lectures and workshops are offered. The contributions to the Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale are then published in a conference proceedings.
