Research Programs Unit
The Research Programs Unit (RPU), in Finnish Tutkimusohjelmayksikkö (TOY), is one of the three units of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki. It is dedicated to biomedical research..[1][2], and is part of the Academic Medical Center Helsinki , located in the Meilahti Campus of the University of Helsinki[3]
An external and international scientific advisory board selects the research programs and their groups through a competitive call every 4-6 years[2][4][5]. Currently, the RPU consists of nine research programs: Applied Tumor Genomics (ATG), Clinical and Molecular Metabolism (CAMM), Human Microbiome (HUMI), Individualized Drug Therapy Research Program (INDIVIDRUG), Translational Immunology (TRIMM), Sleep and stress in health and in transition from acute to chronic diseases (SLEEPWELL), Systems Oncology (ONCOSYS), Translational Cancer Medicine (CAN-PRO), and Stem Cells and Metabolism (STEMM). Most, but not all of the RPU's laboratories and facilities are located in the Biomedicum Helsinki research center. The existing programs will run until the end of 2025.[6] The current director of the RPU is Henna Tyynismaa[7]
