Restream is a freemium cloud multistreaming service, headquartered in Austin, Texas. The service allows its users to simultaneously stream video content to multiple video platforms and social networks, including Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, Mixer, and LinkedIn.[1][2][3] Restream and its services are available for all major operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.

History[edit]

Restream is a Ukrainian-American startup, founded in 2014 by Alexander Khuda and Andrew Surzhynskyi, headed by Khuda as its CEO.[1][4] A bootstrapped startup in its beginning, as of 2019 Restream is in the seed stage, having raised over $3.3 million in seed money from investors including the Korean venture capital firm Kakao Ventures and the Austin-based Silverton Partners.[5]

Restream’s history is marked by a series of partnerships and integrations. Restream has partnered up, among others, with the esports organization G2 Esports[6], the interactive smartphone camera pod Pivo,[7] AMD for the Radeon ReLive integration.[8] In February 2019, Restream announced a partnership with LinkedIn as the company announced its new video broadcasting service LinkedIn Live.[3][9]

Multistreaming[edit]

Restream’s core service, cloud-based multistreaming, allows content creators to stream the video they capture, live, to a number of different video sites. Because the streaming occurs via Restream’s cloud servers, there are no additional CPU or bandwidth requirements content creators must meet.

At present, the service is integrated with 35 streaming platforms from the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, China, India, Germany, Japan, and South Korea.[10] Restream also enables broadcasters to stream any unsupported RTMP enabled platform. This ability is, however, part of their paid plans.[11][1]

Features[edit]

Restream Dashboard

The role of Restream’s core service, cloud-based multistreaming, is to help content creators and streamers to reach a wider audience on a variety of platforms.[12] This type of service might be beneficial to producers of almost any type of video content, including gaming, events, music, entertainment, VR, drone, and educational content.[13]

Over time, Restream added a number of features to its core product. These include, but are not limited, to live chat and video scheduling tools.

Restream Chat[edit]

Restream Chat

Launched in 2016,[14] the Restream Chat is an app that allows Restream users to have the chats from all their platforms available in one place. With the Chat, broadcasters can read and reply to messages, use a relay bot to enable cross-platform communication between different audiences, and easily integrate their messages with their video stream.[15]

Restream Chat is available via the browser, but also as a standalone app. Users can install the app on devices running operating systems such as Windows, Mac OS, Linux.

Restream Scheduler[edit]

Restream Scheduler

The Restream Scheduler is a service Restream launched in November 2017.[16] It lets users upload recorded and edited videos to Restream servers, then schedule the stream times.[17]

Restream Analytics[edit]

Restream Analytics

Restream Analytics is an integral part of the multistreaming service that also integrates with Restream Chat natively. Analytics offers Restream users’ insight into their audience metrics, including data on the reach, watch time, activity, and interaction spikes. Restream Analytics also shows streamers the most used words and emojis across chatrooms.[18]

Restream Go Live[edit]

Restream Go Live

In March 2019, Restream launched Go Live, a simplified version of its core service. With Go Live, registered users can multistream directly from their browsers using only their webcams[19].
