Retro Asylum is an ongoing independent British retrogaming podcast started in October 2011. A defining characteristic of Retro Asylum that separated it from other videogame podcasts at the time was its coverage of retrogaming from a UK-perspective, drawing specific attention to platforms such as the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, and Commodore 64 in addition to providing coverage to 8-bit budget tiles from the 1980s. In 2015, Retro Asylum was voted as “Best Video Game Podcast” in the first UK Podcaster awards and in 2016 was awarded “World’s Best Podcast” at the New Media Europe awards.[1] In 2020 was identified by Retro Gamer as a catalyst to the British retrogaming podcasting boom in the following years.[2]
