Reverbg2
The HP Reverb G2 is a consumer virtual reality headset created and manufactured by HP Inc.. It was released on September 15th, 2020[1] retailing at $599 and works with VR platforms such as SteamVR[2] and Windows Mixed Reality. It was developed in partnership with Valve Corporation and Microsoft[3]. In 2021, HP released an updated G2 with improvements to improve field-of-view and controller coverage.
Technical specifications
Display
The headset is wired and plugged into a PC as a Head-mounted display over USB-C and DisplayPort. It uses a panel with 4K resolution, with 4.7 megapixels per eye[4]. It supports a refresh rate up to 90Hz. It weighs 1.87 pounds[5].
Tracking
It is reliant on four on-board cameras for tracking and is not dependent on externally placed base stations.
Sounds and controls
It includes off-ear headphones and two controllers. The sound includes a new spatial audio format designed by HP Labs[6].
Reception
The headset has been well received, with praise focusing on the display resolution[7] and ease of setup[8]. One reviewer said it had solved the "screen door" effect, describing it as "non-existent". Some critics focused on Windows Mixed Reality, describing it as "fairly bland"[7].
