Reverse Engineer Anything (REA) is an open-source reverse engineering toolkit that allows artificial intelligence coding agents to inspect software and analyze its behavior without access to its original source code. It provides a command-line interface and a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that connects coding agents with reverse-engineering tools including Ghidra, IDA Pro, and Hopper.[1][2] REA can analyze native binaries, JavaScript and Electron applications, .NET assemblies, Android applications, websites, and other software artifacts. Rather than introducing a new decompiler, REA acts as an interface between AI agents and established analysis tools, allowing an agent to gather pseudocode, assembly instructions, symbols, module relationships, and other evidence and use the results during software-development tasks.[3][4]
Development and reception
REA is developed as an open-source project under the MIT License and distributed through GitHub and the npm package registry as rea-agents.[5] The project attracted substantial online attention in October 2026. MindStudio described REA as a "viral" MCP project while noting that much of the surrounding attention focused on its rapid growth on GitHub and that established reverse-engineering tools provide the underlying decompilation capabilities.[6] Cyber Security News described the software as a bridge between AI coding agents and existing reverse-engineering tools rather than a replacement for conventional disassemblers.[7]
