Reviews of Geophysics and Planetary Physics is an open access academic journal in earth and planetary physics governed by China Earthquake Administration, sponsored by Institute of Geophysics, China Earthquake Administration[1][2] and co-sponsored by Chinese Geophysical Society[3][4] and Geophysical Exploration Center of China Earthquake Administration[5]. The journal is bimonthly issued and the language of publication is Chinese and English.

History

The journal was founded in 1970 in the Chinese language. It was formerly known as Science and Technology Reference - Foreign Earthquake Materials (科学技术参考资料·国外地震资料). The journal was renamed as Foreign Earthquake (国外地震) in 1974 and World Earthquake Translation (世界地震译丛) in 1982[6]. In 2021, it was renamed to the current title as Reviews of Geophysics and Planetary Physics. In 2022, the language of the journal was changed from Chinese to Chinese and English[7], publishing research articles in the field of geophysics and planetary physics, with targeted readers specialized in these topics from all over the world.

In 2022, the journal published its first English article: MAVEN-based investigation of Martian exobase temperatures: Diurnal and solar cycle variations.[8]

Publication Scope

The journal mainly reports on the fields of geophysics and planetary physics, including solid geophysics, planetary physics, space physics, and atmospheric physics. The journal aims to publish new ideas, technologies and progress in the field of geophysics and planetary physics, promote academic exchanges, and advance the development of the scientific research in this field.

Columns include:

1. Reviews: summary and comment on representative achievements, status quo, problems to be solved, future research directions and suggestions for future research work.

2. Research Articles: significant scientific research achievements in related research fields of geophysics and planetary physics at home and abroad.

3. Scientific Research Bulletin: brief report of the latest innovative achievements and new discoveries.

4. Technical Reports: the latest achievements in the application of various new technologies to research.

5. Opinion & Debate: including "problem discussion", "academic discussion", "question and answer", "academic suggestion", publishing papers on frontier, leading edge and hot issues, or post-publishing discussions.

6. Highlight Contents: brief comment on important achievements and progress of papers published in Nature/Science/PNAS and their sub-journals.

7. News & Views: report of trends, research progress of key laboratories, review of new books, introduction or tutorial of important methods and technologies, etc.
