The Revolutionary Communist Party is a communist political party in Britain and the British section of the International Marxist Tendency. The party describes itself as "fighting for a communist programme to overthrow capitalism in Britain and internationally."[6]

The party was founded out of predecessor organisations, Socialist Appeal[7] and the Scottish IMT group, Revolution in 2024.[8] The party resultingly traces its lineage to supporters of Ted Grant and Alan Woods after their departure or expulsion from the Militant tendency in the early 1990s.[9][10]

The party publishes a fortnightly newspaper called The Communist.

The party's founding congress is scheduled to take place in May 2024.[11]

Issue 1 of The Communist

The Communist is a fortnightly newspaper produced by the party, as a successor publication to Socialist Appeal and Revolution.[12][13] The first edition of The Communist published on 24 January. The paper states that its focus is on social, political and trade union issues with the "aim to provide a genuine voice for the working class".[14]

The party also produces a quarterly theoretical journal In Defence of Marxism.[15]

The party also publishes a number of pamphlets and books through their Wellred Books publishing arm.[16]

International Marxist Tendency[edit]

The international group to which the party is affiliated is known as the International Marxist Tendency. In Latin America it has supported Hugo Chavez’s Bolivarian Revolution and the IMT instigated the formation of the Hands Off Venezuela campaign group to support Chávez.[17][18][19]

The IMT has published a number of books by Trotsky, Grant and Woods[16] and runs the multilingual website In Defence of Marxism.

In conjunction with a rebranding of sections across the tendency in late 2023 and early 2024, the IMT announced in February 2024 that it would be relaunching itself as the "Revolutionary Communist International" in June 2024.[20]
