Rezaul Karim Chowdhury (31May 1953)[1] was a Bangladesh Awami League politician. He served as Senior Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Chittagong, the second-largest city in Bangladesh.

Early Life[edit]

He was born on 31 May 1953 in the Bahardar family of the traditional and ancient zamindar dynasty of East Sholashahar ward 7 under Chandgaon police station in Chittagong.

Education Life[edit]

In the former Greater Panchlaish Thana, the former men of his family established East Sholashahar Primary School on their own land at Bahardar Hat in 1820 to spread education in the area. He passed 5th class from that school in 1972 and later SSC from Chittagong Government Muslim High School. HSC from Chittagong College And obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Chittagong and then enrolled to study law. But after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he could not pass the final test by taking active resistance against military misrule in protest of the assassination.

He joined East Pakistan Chhatra League in 1966. Organizing Secretary of Chittagong College Chhatra League in 1989-1980. Acting General Secretary of Chittagong College Chhatra League in 1970-1971. President of Chittagong College Chhatra League in 1972-197. In 1980, he was a member of the working committee of the Greater Chittagong District Chhatra League. In 1972-1973, he was the office secretary of Chittagong District Chhatra League. Organizing Secretary of Chittagong North District Chhatra League in 1973-1975. General Secretary of Chittagong North District Chhatra League in 197-197. Convener of Chittagong North District Chhatra League in 1989-1989. In 1980 he was a member of the executive committee of Chittagong Metropolitan Juba League. 1992 Member of the Executive Committee of Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League. Secretary of Information and Research Affairs of Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League in 1996-2007. Organizing Secretary of Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League in 2007-2014. He has been the joint general secretary of Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League since 2014.

He was the founder and chairman of the Chittagong Citizens' Council, the first organization to demand the development of Chittagong, and the Chaktai Canal Excavation Struggle Committee, known as the sorrow of Chittagong, from 1973-1994.

He was the convener of the management committee of Chittagong Vijay Mela Parishad from 1991-1992.

He was the Secretary General of Chittagong Vijay Mela Parishad in 2011 and Vice Chairman in 2014.

Founder and Chairman of Samsun Nahar Polytechnic Institute and Samsun Nahar Technical Training Institute.

President Chandgaon NMC High School and East Sholashahar Washia Ahmadiyya Madrasa Board of Directors.

President Badr Shahi Jame Mosque Management Committee.

Published Publication[edit]

Editor-Monthly Ayut Kantha (1972), after the assassination of Bangabandhu, published the magazine "Suryapath" in 1978, ignoring the military rule.

Editor of the fortnightly magazine "Barud".

Published books: Jamaat Shibir's Violence and Religious Politics (1993), Black Money Dependent Sick Politics Must Be Free (2014), Chhatra League Chittagong in the Sixties (2016) and Homeland Politics and Domestic Violence (2019).

Personal life:[edit]

Rezaul Karim Chowdhury with wife, two daughters and one son. Wife- Selina Akhter,Daughter- Tanzina Sharmin Nipun (teacher is studying abroad to get PhD degree from Chittagong University and currently with government scholarship). The second daughter has a master's degree from Chittagong University and the youngest Son Imran Reza Chowdhury is studying Chemical Engineering.
