Life and Career
Wheeler was born and grew up in Carmel, California and spent his summers in the Isle of Wight, England.[3] He started as a recording artist for Hampton-Brown's Phonics and Friends at an early age, singing for the worldwide audio English learning program.[4] In 1997, he was hired by Tropicana Products, Inc. for a national Super Bowl commercial.[5] He trained at Ithaca College in musical theatre and received a BA in the Arts from The New School University.[6] He started to perform regionally, and then became a production singer on the luxury cruise lines: Silversea Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, and Oceania Cruises.[7] While on the ships, he started to perform as a guest entertainer, creating his own show with an eight-piece band entitled, "How Well We Love... An Evening with Rhett Wheeler."[8] He has also performed with such notable talent as Dolly Parton and Trini Lopez. After being discovered by David Foster at Walt Disney World, he became principal vocalist at Tokyo Disney Resort in Big Band Beat.[9]
David Foster Discovery and Viral Success

In November 2015, while waiting for Ariana Grande to arrive for her scheduled performances for the taping of the annual Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade, David Foster (who was to play for her on piano) interacted with the crowd, asking if anyone would like to sing.[10] Foster picked Rhett from the crowd, who asked Foster if he could sing one of Foster's songs, "The Prayer."[11] After he started to sing, Foster asked Rhett to stop and immediately get on the stage to continue with the whole song. Audience members uploaded video of the event and, since then, the original video has been shared over 1600 times and exceeds 145 thousand views.[12][13] News outlets have called him an "overnight success."[14]
Other Notable Performances
Wheeler performed in "Spirit of The Dance" with guest star Dolly Parton in the Dolly Parton Celebrity Theater at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.[15][16] He has performed with Trini Lopez, when Lopez was being honored with the Connie Francis Lifetime Achievement Award.[17] BroadwayWorld, a high profile news source for the Broadway community, wrote about Wheeler's post-viral success as principal vocalist at Tokyo Disney Resort in Tokyo Disneysea's Big Band Beat.[9] He has also performed at the Historic Outdoor Forest Theater[18] in Carmel, CA in Disney's The Little Mermaid as Ursula, The Sea Witch.[19][20][21]
