Lieutenant colonel Richard Evert van der Horst, OBE, RM (21 September 1966 - 14 March 2005) was a British Royal Marines Officer and commander of the Special Boat Service.
Early life
Son of a previous commander of the Special Boat Service and educated at the Sherborne School.[1] Then he went on to Birmingham University and gained the degree of BSc in Biological Sciences.[2]
Military Career
In 1984 he joined the Royal Marines as a university cadet. He then passed out in 1988 with the Sword of Honour.[3]
Richard died in a diving accident off the coast of Norway.
