Dr. Richmond Kelly M.D. (September 15, 1855 - February 22, 1928) was pioneer physician in what became the U.S. state of Oregon.

Dr. Kelly was born on September 15, 1855 in Pulaski County, Kentucky to Clinton Kelly and his third wife, Moriah Maldon Crain as the second youngest of their nine children.

He started attending Willamette University in 1873 and graduated with an A.B. in 1878.[1] He then later attended the Miami Medical College of Cincinnati, which later became part of the University of Cincinnati, and gradated in the class of 1884.[1]

He was also connected to the City Hospital of Cincinnati for two years, from 1883 to 1885. He was also made a senior intern there in 1884.[1] He later headed back to Portland, Oregon and became a professor of Obstetrics at Willamette University and held the chair til 1896, when the university was moved to Salem.[1]

Family[edit]

On January 27, 1885, Kelly married Addie Morgan and they had four children: Joyce R., Laura, Esther, and Wilbur Clinton.

Legacy[edit]

The neighborhood of Richmond in Portland, Oregon is named after Kelly.[2] It is also presumed that the Richmond Elementary School in the aforementioned neighborhood is also named after Kelly.

Also his nephew, Richmond K. Turner, the son of his sister Laura and Enoch Turner is potentially named after him.
