Rick Armstrong (born Eric Armstrong on June 30th 1957 in Lancaster California) is the son of the First Man on the Moon, Apollo 11 Mission Commander Neil Armstrong and his first wife Janet Armstrong. [1] (Neil's other son, Mark Armstrong is also a bass player).
Rick Armstrong is the full-time guitarist for the Progressive "Sci-Fi" rock band Edison's Children... featuring Pete Trewavas and Eric Blackwood and is the "side project" of the UK based Marillion who have sold 15 million albums worldwide and were winners of the 2013 and 2017 Progressive UK Rock Band of the Year [2].
Along with Edison's Children, Rick has performed live as a guitarist and/or special guest for the Steve Rothery band (of Marillion) and joined Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Roger McGuinn of The Byrds as a bassist in a special concert for NASA in Phoenix Arizona which also featured several prominent and musical members of the United States Astronaut Hall of Fame guesting on various musical instruments.[3] Rick has also appeared live with Marillion and his neice (grand-daughter of Neil Armstrong),[4] singer Kali Armstrong during the "Swap the Band" feature of the concert series "Marillion Weekend Live in Montreal" in 2005 and 2007. In honor of the 50th anniversary of his father Neil Armstrong landing on the moon, the NASA Scholarship fund will feature a concert to celebrate Apollo 11 with Rick Armstrong live with his band Edison's Children including 2018 Progressive Magazine Bassist of the Year Pete Trewavas and their special guests Porcupine Tree's lead guitarist John Wesley and their drummer Mark Prator as well as Lisa Wetton, the wife of the late lead singer of King Crimson and Asia on percussion. The Alan Parsons Project will also headline the event with Rick and Edison's Children[6] [7]
Rick also owns his own Software firm "Sun Sabre Software" and is a software engineer.[8]
