Riptide Radios is an American alternative rock and post-grunge band formed in 2022 in San Diego, California. The band consists of bassist and lead vocalist Ryan Flores, guitarist Aaron T. Smith, and drummer Jonny Beats. Known for their melodic yet heavy tones, the band blends influences from '90s grunge, alternative rock, and modern rock.
History
Formation
Riptide Radios was formed in 2022 by Ryan Flores, who is also a bassist for Sprung Monkey and Hazmatt, and has toured with P.O.D. as a fill-in bassist. Joining him were guitarist Aaron T. Smith, Ryan's long-time friend since their teenage years, and drummer Jonny Beats, who previously toured as the drummer for P.O.D. from 2019 to 2022. The trio decided to combine their extensive musical backgrounds to create a unique blend of alternative rock and post-grunge.[1]
Early Years (2022–2024)
The band released their first six singles independently between 2022 and 2024. With songs like "My Addiction," which gained traction for its catchy lyrics and relatable themes, the band established itself in the Southern California music scene. The band regularly performs in venues across San Diego and Riverside counties and is working on their debut EP, set for release in 2025.[2]
The group is noted for their strong stage presence and tight-knit chemistry, honed by years of performing in various projects before coming together as Riptide Radios.
Musical Style and Influences
Riptide Radios combines the raw energy of grunge with melodic and polished elements of alternative rock, drawing inspiration from bands like Foo Fighters, Silverchair, and Pennywise. Their music often features introspective lyrics that touch on themes such as addiction, mental health, and resilience, paired with powerful choruses designed to resonate with a broad audience.
