Risas Dental and Braces (commonly known as Risas Dental) is a chain of dental clinics founded on 03 September 2011 by Dr. Nicolas Porter in Phoenix, Arizona.[1] The company now consists of approximately 70 doctors and 700 teammates with 25 clinics across Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and Texas.[2]

History[edit]

Beginnings[edit]

Dr. Nicolas Porter was working at Porter Dental before founding Risas Dental and Braces’ first clinic in Phoenix, Arizona in September 2011.[3] According to Michelle Rubio, the human resources director at Risas Dental, the clinics were found on the “principle that proper oral health and treatment critical to overall health and should be accessible to all.” [4] In addition to this, Dr. Porter founded Risas Dental clinics with the aim to provide fair treatment to the employees and an affordable dental care plan to the patients.[5]

Growth and Expansion[edit]

As of January 2020, Risas Dental has 25 clinics with 16 situated in Arizona, 6 in Colorado, 2 in Texas, and 1 in Nevada. The clinics have collectively treated nearly 500,000 people over the past 8 years.[6][7]

Business and Services[edit]

Risas Dental clinics are situated in areas with considerable Hispanic populations.[8] As a result, each clinic is staffed with at least one Spanish speaking team member while all the rest are bilingual. The clinics offer complete general dentistry, orthodontics, and dental surgery services.[9]

Labor of Love Day[edit]

Labor of Love is an ongoing initiative of Dr. Nicolas Porter in celebration of the opening of its first clinic.[10][11] Each Risas clinic offers free dental care from 8 AM till 12 noon on Labor Day each year.[12] The company has given away over USD 5.5 million in free dental care through this initiative.[13][14][15]

Awards and Recognition[edit]

Dr. Porter and Risas Dental has been widely recognized and acclaimed for their services. Dr. Porter received the 2014 Health Care Hero award by the Phoenix Business Journal [16] and was named one of Phoenix Business Journal’s “Most Admired Leaders of 2015".[17]

Phoenix Business Journal also recognized Risas Dental as the Best Place to Work in 2014[18] followed by the same recognition by Denver Business Journal in 2015.[19]

Phoenix Chamber of Commerce conferred Risas Dental with the "Impact Award" for Entrepreneurial Excellence for their service to the community in 2014.[20]
