Ritam Banerjee ( born 1976) is an Indian photographer and cinematographer based in Mumbai. He works extensively and is also represented globally by Getty images..[1]. He is known for his photographic projects across diverse genres. He photographed the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008[2], as well as the ICC Cricket World Cup champions in 2011.[3]

Early Life[edit]

Born and brought up in Jamshedpur. In 1996 he left Jamshedpur to study physics at Ferguson College, Pune. In Pune, with a basic 35mm SLR, a 50 mm lens and two rolls of negative film, he began taking pictures. Some of these first images were published in the leading Indian daily, Times of India’s Pune edition.

Career[edit]

In 1999, Banerjee moved to Mumbai to work with Better Photography Magazine.[citation needed]

Published work[edit]

In 2008, Banerjee's photographs from the 26/11 Mumbai Terror attacks appeared in international publications, including The New York Times[4], The Guardian[5]and Stern.

His journalistic and portraiture work has been in print in The Wall Street Journal[6], Financial Times, The Washington Post, The Economic Times[7], The Daily Telegraph, The Observer, The Independent, The Times of India and The Indian Express[8], amongst others.

Events[edit]

He has been the official photographer of global sporting events like ICC Cricket World Cup 2011[9], ICC T-20 Cricket World Cup 2016[10], ICC Women's World Cup 2016[11] and BCCI Indian Premier League 2010[12]

Workshop and seminars[edit]

Banerjee has conducted several workshops and seminars, including at TEDx,[13] the University of Johannesburg, Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai, Ashoka University[14], IIM Ahmedabad[15], AISFM Hyderabad[16]

Jury member[edit]

Banerjee has been a jury member of several national and international photography contests like Indiaczech Photography contest 2018[17], INDIAFRICA Photography Contest 2012-13[18], India Serbia Photography Contest 2014[19], PrintWeek India Awards[20], to name a few.
